The witness joined a small group for an overnight camp to practice outdoor skills. In the evening the witness walked east of camp, noticed a strong foul smell and heard vegetation breaking nearby before running back to the group. Overnight the campers were awakened by sounds around the camp followed by a loud crash, and by morning the food hung high above ground was gone, the supporting limb was damaged, and a foul smell lingered. The group then packed and left the area.

The witness and their son were camped and eating supper after dark on a wide gravel bar. A boulder estimated at about 15 lbs flew from the direction of the woods and landed about five feet from them, leaving a crater in the sand. The witness noticed the tent had been lifted and saw a shadow pass by, then illuminated a large dark human-like figure about 20 yards away that turned and ran into the brush. The witness kept lights on until sunrise and packed up and left the next morning.

The witness and companions were hunting and camping by a gravel pit near a pond. In the late evening they noticed a strong odor from across the water and two of them crossed a dike to investigate. They heard growls and vegetation shook violently, so they retreated. Through the night they heard moaning and howls and had rocks and limbs thrown toward them from across the pond, finding no tracks the next morning.

The witness was sitting by a campfire outside the family motorhome with two dogs while her husband was inside with the children. She heard repeated huge splashes in the nearby lake that sounded like large boulders being thrown far out into the water, and the dogs became frightened. She discovered her husband had been inside asleep and had not caused the sounds, and he then also heard splashes while inside. A check outside with a flashlight revealed nothing further.

The witness, who also keeps birds, visited the coop to learn how to reinforce their own enclosure and found wire mesh bent and compressed in a way they felt required great strength. The witness collected hair samples from the scene for analysis, which were later reported to be mountain lion hair.

The witness and a companion were fishing from a boat at night on a reservoir. A very heavy object was thrown from the shore and splashed down near the boat, rocking it. About an hour later the witness heard a loud metal bang interpreted as a bear-proof dumpster lid being lifted and dropped in the closed, unoccupied loop.

After nightfall on their final night, they heard single rocks striking and bouncing down the rocky slope about 60-70 yards from camp, repeating in different spots. The witness later wondered if the sounds could have been something throwing rocks toward camp.

A couple sleeping in a rented fifth-wheel trailer at a campground were awakened around 2 a.m. by sounds outside. The wife reported padded footsteps circling the trailer, followed by pressure on the exterior step that shook the trailer while their normally vocal dog stayed silent. The occupants remained inside in fear and later closed windows and fell asleep; companions camped nearby said they heard nothing.

Around 1 a.m. large rocks began falling around their tents for several hours, despite no cliffs or steep grade that could explain natural rockfall, accompanied by very loud branch cracking. The witness got up repeatedly to look but saw nothing that could explain the activity, except a deer that stayed in camp until the disturbance stopped.
