Hiker encounters large animal at close range in Mount Washington Wilderness
Account
The witness was hiking down into high lake country in the Mount Washington Wilderness when he smelled a strong dead-like odor on the wind. He looked upwind and saw an eight-foot upright long-haired creature standing about 20 feet away at the forest edge watching him. After less than five seconds the creature turned and bolted over a small hill into the forest, and the frightened witness left the area toward his truck.
