Cryptid sighting near Jackson County (1877)
Account
The guest retold 1877 newspaper reports of a massive footprint found in Jackson County that led townsmen including a doctor, reverend and colonel to hunt the maker. They found a very bony giant sleeping among bones on July Mountain, saw dogs hesitate and be thrown, then tied and measured it in a gulch before it escaped toward Sand Mountain. A 1936 article omitted the capture and quoted a dying informant calling it a hoax, which the guest disputes.
