Starting in 2007 the researcher visited his wife's family area biweekly and spent time in the woods. He repeatedly saw figures peeking from behind trees then running down a ravine. After he mocked them they threw dinner-plate-sized rocks, forcing him to wear body armor. After years of night monitoring and gifting apples it took twelve years for them to become friendly.
