The guest was driving home at night on Route 57 in Agawam with a friend when a large dark bulky animal emerged from the median. A car a few lengths ahead swerved sharply to avoid it as it galloped on all fours across the highway toward the woods. The witnesses described it as much larger than a bear, with no snout, no tail, patchy dark fur, and a hind end higher than its front. It crossed in a few seconds and disappeared into a small wooded strip heading toward Robinson State Park.
