The guest was fishing alone for catfish at night from a low creek bank with a lantern turned low. He heard something run on bare feet across a road, grab a guardrail, and slide down riprap rocks toward the creek. He then heard movement in cane, a whoop followed by a long vocalization, saw widely spaced reddish-orange eyeshine, and heard baseball-sized rocks hitting the water before it moved away.

Two people were walking uphill on a rural road around 2 a.m. when they heard a strange loud scream from the wooded valley below. The sound occurred again about 20-30 seconds later, lasting longer and sounding much closer. They ran uphill to the companion's home.

As children, the witness and a sibling companion went to play on a creek that had partly thawed and then refrozen hard overnight. They found a line of barefoot-like prints with distinct toes crossing the ice for about twenty feet and continuing up a steep bank. No other prints were present, and the witness judged a human origin unlikely because of the remote location and freezing weather.

The witness was deer hunting with a parent when the parent fired three shots from a nearby holler. The witness moved to the edge of a field, heard talking-like chattering, then saw two quadrupedal hairy animals burst from brush and run toward the witness. Both the witness and the parent fired at the animals, which moved very quickly across the creek bottom and up the opposite ridge.

He then saw a tall black-haired upright figure tear a limb from a tree and look at him. A truck driver hauling steel west on a highway slowed and used high beams to check what was thought to be a hitchhiker on the opposite side. On approaching, the driver reported seeing a tall white-haired ape-like creature. Looking outside, the witness reported seeing a large white hairy creature holding a rooster, which it threw against the house before moving behind the house. The witness pursued it with a pistol and fired twice as it ran out of sight up a gravel road.

In 1980 two men claiming to be Smithsonian field agents visited the grandmother's farm for two days after magazine coverage. They toured the garden and orchard, noted twisted limbs, cast footprints and a supposed sitting impression, collected hair and produce, and recorded audio. At night the family showed them figures with a spotlight, with up to three seen, and the visitors played a scream recording that was followed by distant chatter.
