Later that day they found giant five-toed tracks circling their parked vehicle, and the passenger who checked the roadside with a flashlight claimed it was a hooded hunter on horseback.

The witness was elk hunting on horseback in the Idaho wilderness with a companion when their horses became unmanageable near a ridgetop. They discovered very large fresh human-like footprints in snow that did not look like bear tracks. After moving away, they learned that two hunters camped in the next valley had abandoned camp after reporting a screaming animal throwing logs and destroying their camp.

The witness was resting in front of a house when they noticed a creature near the top of a ridge across a river. The creature covered the last stretch to the ridgeline in a few strides, then faced the witness with hands on hips for several seconds before walking down the far side with a swaying gait. The witness ran inside to get a scoped gun for observation, but relatives present did not believe the account.

In late August 1973, two companions setting up a hunting camp at night heard loud screams, whistles, and brush thrashing around them and retreated into their truck cab. The witness then shone a spotlight toward the sounds and saw an erect, dark brown-to-black biped move rapidly up a steep rock slide on two legs. The witness later felt the animal had no intent to harm them.

In 1972 the father was hunting on a trail with the mother when he saw a large black hair-covered creature standing behind a small tree staring at him through his rifle scope. He watched it motionless for about a minute and a half before it disappeared from view, then left the area with the mother without telling her at the time. The father reportedly quit hunting and other outdoor activities afterward and rarely discussed the incident.

The witness was riding in a pickup with a relative scouting timber in a steep mountainous area when a large hairy upright animal crossed the road in front of the truck. The animal came down one bank, crossed in a few fast strides, and went down the opposite slope out of sight while brush broke behind it. The relative stopped and got out with a rifle but could not relocate it.

Four people were parked in a car on a double date east of Payette Lake at night. A companion warned that something large had circled the car and was now in front of it. When the headlights were turned on, the group saw an upright figure covered in dense black fur standing at the edge of a clearing about 15 feet away. After a second or two it spun on its heels and ran into the woods.

The witness and a companion were camping overnight in sleeping bags with two other campers who were asleep. In the early morning the witness felt watched, sat up, and both awake campers saw a large totally black humanoid standing at the woods edge about a hundred feet away for several minutes. After sensing it meant no harm, both lay down and fell asleep. No odor or unusual sounds were noted.

The witness kept the sighting secret for years and did not know if his two companions saw it.

In summer 1963 an 8-year-old child accompanied his father to a cedar-clearing work site on Moscow Mountain. After the father felled a large cedar snag, the child climbed onto the downed trunk when a small, muscular, dark-furred being jumped onto the log face-to-face with him. The child screamed and the being ran away on two legs toward the top of the tree and disappeared into brush. Both had felt watched just before felling, but no animal had been seen in the standing tree.

Late at night in spring 1963, six family members stopped during a rabbit hunting trip in sagebrush country and used a spotlight to look for animals. The spotlight revealed a large, tall, hair-covered upright figure running away, leaping over brush without pausing before disappearing into a gully. The group did not pursue it or search for footprints and ended the hunt, concluding it matched no familiar animal.

As a young teenager bringing cows across a canal near dark, the diarist saw a large bear-like figure standing on hind feet by a sapling 600-700 feet away and felt intense chill. Cows were undisturbed and his father was unconcerned. Next morning with his friend [name withheld] he found a huge bare footprint in wet mud under the sapling, estimated 8.5-9 feet tall using [name withheld]'s height, and nearby found a stick-bed with a strong repulsive odor.

A group of youngsters skating on a river encountered an 8-foot hair-covered creature that yelled and brandished a large club. They fled on skates to their wagons and escaped. Tracks found later away from the river were 22 inches long with four toes.

While tent camping with family, the witness knocked a stick on a tree and got a reply, yelled and got a loud yelled reply through the valley. That night deer and birds vanished, and a felt growl between tents woke the witness and wife with a putrid smell, but a flashlight search found nothing.

In snow in the canyon the witness and friend found a giant canine-like pad print as large as a hand following buck deer tracks into brush. In the same area they found a large human-like footprint twice as long and wide as the witness's foot.

While walking in the canyon the investigator found a staked tent that had been pulled out with personal items thrown around and a pistol casing nearby. Photos were sent to the friend, but the site was cleaned up by the next day.

They heard creatures trailing on both sides, humming growling, a large boulder splash in the creek, saw eyeshine of a very tall figure, then found a mature deer with a leg twisted and left quickly.
