In 1953 three young children were picking blackberries near a railroad track when a tall hair-covered biped came down a steep hillside and walked north along the tracks, looking at them briefly. The witness recalled long arms, a long stride, a primate-like face, and a thin build with short dark hair. The children ran back to the cottage to tell parents, who dismissed the account.

The witness, working as a night security guard at a facility, stepped onto a rear deck for a patrol around 3 a.m. and heard an extremely loud female-sounding scream from the wooded hillside about 100 feet away. After sunrise he inspected the nearby trail and found large footprints that he measured. He later found a similar scream online and said it matched what he heard.

The witness's father as a youth was snapping turtle fishing from a small boat with his grandfather at a secluded pond. They saw something move easily through the woods, pause to peer from behind a tree at them, then disappear. The grandfather dismissed it as a bear but the father remained terrified.

At night the witness shone a flashlight from his porch and saw a very tall wide reddish figure watching him from a tree. Its eyes glowed red-orange-yellow. He offered apples and ate one to coax it closer, but it only swayed and stepped behind the tree from the light, then left silently without taking the apple.
