The witness was on the back porch at home around 8 p.m. when a tree-knock-like sound was heard from the woods to the northeast. About five minutes later a low rumble rising into a deep whoop-like sound was heard from the same general area. The witness went inside and turned off the exterior lights. No visual contact was reported.

The witness and a companion were hiking in a national forest when they stopped to rest and eat. After standing up, they noticed a very large reddish-brown figure standing down the mountainside and watched it for about 90 seconds. The figure then walked away into the trees before they could photograph it. A few minutes earlier they had heard an animal sounding in distress from the same direction.

About a month after moving in August 2014 the witness heard an extremely loud owl-like sound he thought could not be a real owl or person. He later heard rocks clanging, tree beating and movement over the hill. A couple months later he and his cousin heard the owl sound again, this time more like a monkey trying to imitate an owl.

The witness was cutting hay by tractor on a family farm when he looked back to re-cut a missed strip and saw a tall dark human-shaped figure running away downhill into a narrow patch of woods. He watched it for a few seconds at about 100 yards as it headed toward thicker woods toward the mountains. He later compared its height to a tall relative and estimated it at about seven feet with very long strides.

Around 4 a.m. the witness was driving to work when headlights revealed a tall dark figure by a stop sign. The figure left the road in two large bounds down an embankment into a creek bed area. The witness slowed for a closer view, heard no sound, and did not see its front side.

Around Christmas 2014 after returning home about 11pm, the witness's girlfriend heard scraping on the bathroom screen, turned off the light and found herself face to face with a tall black hooded-like figure blocking the window. The witness was driving east to work in the early morning when headlights illuminated a large hair-covered biped in the road. The creature crossed from a field into woods on the south side in two quick steps without looking at the vehicle. The witness stopped the truck to look and listen but the creature was out of sight and nothing was heard.

A couple visiting family graves on a rainy afternoon heard low, guttural calls lasting several seconds from the wooded mountainside about 100-150 yards away, repeated in sets of three. The witness mimicked a single call and received a single reply after a short silence while nearby dogs froze and stared toward the sound and poultry fled. The pair drove toward a water tank near the apparent source but heard nothing further, and the dogs later resumed barking.

On the night of November 23 the witness shone a light from the deck toward a small woods patch behind the house to check for deer. About 160 yards away he saw a pair of large, brilliant emerald-green eyes spaced widely apart. The witness waited on an ATV in a hollow while her companion walked up a ridge to check a trail camera. She heard a single long horn-like yell from ahead in the same hollow that she did not recognize from local wildlife. Her companion, who was out of sight on the ridge, said he did not hear the sound.

The witness stopped alone at a roadside overlook in Shenandoah National Park to photograph the sunset. Just before 5 p.m., the witness heard sets of loud wood-on-wood knocks from the woods in three different directions around the overlook. The witness stated the sounds were unfamiliar and unlike typical forest noises heard during many years visiting the park.
Vacationing family observes & photographs a large hair covered figure in Grayson Highlands State Park
A group of ten vacationers at a scenic overlook noticed a large dark figure about 200 yards below them. The figure was initially crouched and appeared to dig or pull at something, then stood, walked to a tree, observed the group, and eventually moved deeper into the forest out of view over about five minutes. Photos were taken by the group, while two unrelated visitors who also photographed it left quickly appearing scared.
