About six months before the sightings, the father and the other son were on their driveway with a telescope when they heard very loud wailing or howling for about five minutes. It did not sound like local coyotes or dogs and could not be located by driving around. The sound was loud enough that others inside came out, and it was captured on a doorbell recording.

Around 2 a.m. a loud slap, a mimicked crow call with a deep gurgly ending, and bipedal footsteps woke the witness. A massive wide-shouldered silhouette with a small-seeming head was seen swaying behind the light tent fabric, then moved around the tent for hours, charged at one point, and left near first light.
