Daytime sighting by two hikers, near Lost Creek in Lassen National Forest
Two companions hiking back toward camp in the early evening saw a large upright figure walking away from them on a fire road about 200 yards ahead. They watched for about a minute as it paused, moved to the side of the road, then continued quickly and disappeared around a bend or into the forest. They estimated it was over six feet tall and heavy, appearing naked or covered in brown fur.

The witness stayed behind from dinner with a bloody nose and, while at a restroom, heard slow footsteps moving in brush hidden by high bushes. After telling other campers at dinner, the group returned and found large manlike footprints in hard ground. When footsteps were heard again, the witness and another camper chased the source uphill, heard it running away, and found only toe-prints.

The witness was overseeing a large group of youths at a nighttime bivouac and had just settled them to sleep when he noticed a tall dark silhouette standing beyond the tents. The figure stayed in place, moving its upper body slightly as if surveying the area, while the witness slowly backed toward staff to retrieve a flashlight. When he returned with light the figure was gone, and a check at daybreak found flat open ground with no object that could have explained the shape.

Four people camped by a river heard a loud crashing sound while eating dinner. They saw a large hairy biped running down a nearby trail illuminated by their campfire. The calls came in five or six bouts of five to six rising-falling segments each over about a minute and were estimated to originate one to two miles away. Two companions at camp did not hear the sounds, and nothing else unusual was noticed for the remainder of the trip.

While bicycle-camping overnight at Fort Ross, the witness and a companion were awakened around 1 a.m. by an extremely loud, prolonged scream very close to their tent. They stayed frozen in the tent listening for about an hour, and later heard a similar scream from farther away near the lower parking area. They did not see the source and did not look for tracks the next morning.
Sound and Footprint Reports from Stanislaus National Forest
The witness and family were camping in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness in 1981 when deep howls were heard nightly for three nights from about 11 p.m. until dawn. The sounds reportedly began after two men with dogs went into the forest after dark and circled a ridge before returning near camp. A pet dog was described as very afraid, and the witness said the howls did not resemble known bobcat or mountain lion sounds.

About two and a half hours after the porch sighting, the mother drove home on the muddy road and saw a large upright figure standing by the road in her headlights. She fled at speed to the house shouting she had seen something huge. The next day food left on the porch was emptied without moving the can, with large footprints below the porch that were later cast.

While living on a rural property one winter, the witness with his brother and a friend found a bobcat torn in half with no chew marks. Days later the witness and his brother found huge human-like footprints in snow, one with a deformed big toe, spaced about six feet apart and sinking deep. The tracks stepped over a fence and went straight up a steep hillside where the boys could barely climb.

The witness was riding in a vehicle at night on a winding redwood highway toward Mt Madonna in early fall 1980 when the car rounded a turn. She claims she saw a huge brown hair-covered biped walking upright along the side of the road with its back to her. Her companion did not see the figure but recalls her frightened reaction, and they continued to their destination.

Two hunters camping overnight on a ridge to be positioned for opening day heard a single extremely loud scream that shifted from high-pitched to deeper growl-like tones from the direction of a nearby tree line. About half an hour later their tethered mule became highly agitated and was found favoring a front leg that later swelled markedly despite no visible wound. Searches that night and the next morning revealed no source, tracks, or sign of trauma.

While camped in high alpine forest, the witness went to a snowdrift above camp and found two lines of large footprint-like impressions that had not been there the day before. Around 6:30 a.m. the witness was driving down into a campground area when they noticed a large dark shape moving through willows along a creek about 200 yards downstream from a bridge. The figure first looked like a person but moved with a very fluid walk and pronounced arm swing unlike a person. By the time the witness alerted a companion the figure was gone, and a later check of the gravelly area found disturbed rocks but no footprints.

The witness reports camping overnight in a tent with a relative in a remote glacial valley during a snowstorm. Around 3:45 a.m., they heard very heavy bipedal footsteps approach and stop a few feet from the tent, remaining silent for about five minutes before continuing toward a frozen lake and rugged ridgeline. The pair did not see the visitor and did not check for tracks, but left quickly at first light feeling frightened and unwelcome.

On the second evening at dusk while walking armed along a dirt road, they encountered a very tall dark-haired bipedal figure standing on the road watching them. After a brief staredown the figure turned and walked unhurried into the forest with heavy breaking-branch footsteps, and the next day large footprints were found leading away across a creek.

The witness and a companion were driving at night on a rural road through farmland when they saw a dark, hairy figure cross the road ahead of them. The figure moved quickly from one side to the other in long, smooth strides without looking toward the car and disappeared into a field. The witness turned back to look with bright lights but saw nothing, and a search the next day found no tracks because the ground was wet and muddy.
