After hiding by cane and waiting between pines, he fired his thermally sighted rifle at a heat signature following him. The animal screamed loudly, crashed through brush and splashed across a creek, and was tracked for two days with no blood or hair found.

About 1960, the submitter's husband and two school friends were spending a weekend night inside a relative's cabin when they felt watched and saw a tall hair-covered figure silhouetted by the open refrigerator light. The boys shouted and split up to flee to the car, with the husband reporting something running close behind him that he could hear breathing and smell strongly like moldy skunk. In hindsight he wondered whether the figure was also fleeing and had simply taken the same path.
