Scream Heard in a Cypress Swamp outside Ft. Myers
Around mid-summer 1982 or 1983, the witness and a companion were camping in a wet cypress swamp in Lee County after dark. After building a campfire, they heard a single deep, drawn-out scream from the swamp less than a mile away, after which insects went silent. They saw and smelled nothing, broke camp immediately and left on foot.

The witness and a relative went to a play hut at the edge of the woods just after daybreak. They noticed a foul odor, heard something large moving and growling, and hid in a nearby gully. They then watched a very tall, broad, brownish-red haired biped with human-like shape approach the hut from 50 to 70 feet away before turning and walking away, after which they ran home.

The witness reported a dusk encounter at about 20+ yards with a dark, stocky creature that had a wide upper torso and no visible neck in a remote pine-oak area. Waning light limited observable detail, but a reddish reflection from the eyes was noted. The witness was alone at the time.

In the late 1970s on a late August morning, the witness and about seven other children were on a remote marshy peninsula at Flagler Beach. The witness noticed a stump-like shape on a grassy hill about 200 yards away across the water, then saw it had moved downhill closer. The witness pointed it out, companions said its head moved, and the whole group fled about a mile. The witness described it as a tall upright figure about 7 feet tall covered in long brownish-grey fur.

Early one Saturday morning in 1971 or 1972 the witness was driving south on US 27 when he stopped at a fresh single-car wreck with law enforcement present. He saw a car with a crushed front fender and overheard officers remark that no one could have walked away from such an impact and about a bear moving unusually. He did not see any animal himself but later heard a radio news report saying the driver claimed to have hit a Florida Skunk Ape that officers chased into a thicket.

The witness and a companion were walking a dirt trail by a canal to find a bass spot while looking down to avoid snakes. They saw large brown legs cross the trail ahead and noticed branches rustling in a nearby group of trees, which the witness attributed to a sasquatch watching them. Scared, they backed away slowly and left the area.

The witness reports repeatedly hearing loud wood-on-wood smacking sounds from different directions after midnight while soaking in a hot tub outside a trailer and later while on the second-floor deck of a new house. The property borders heavily wooded swamp adjoining a wildlife preserve. The witness initially wondered why anyone would be working in the woods at night, later associating the sounds with stick-banging described on a television show. No visual encounter is claimed.

As a boy camping with friends near a creek, the witness and a companion shone flashlights at a departing friend. They saw a large hair-covered bipedal form walk a few yards behind him in the opposite direction, taking a few long smooth strides before leaving the light. The two observers stayed by the fire overnight, and a next-day search found no tracks or other sign.

The guest walked off trail with a group to an area thought to hold a family and found Bigfoot-like prints including small ones that ended abruptly. The prints did not match black bear tracks. Casts were made but a controlled burn was done before they could be retrieved.

A family staying in a house in the former town in the forest woke to their car alarm. They saw a large hairy Bigfoot-like creature hitting the car with a big stick as if trying to silence it. When the father shut off the alarm with his keychain, the creature ran off.

A fishing captain told the guest about being out in the Gulf when his depth finder rose rapidly. A large black shape came up from under the water and hovered above his boat with lights on the corners. It then took off at high speed, leaving only dark phone photos.

He woke to see a solid dark human-like figure with visible shoulders and folded hands watching him at the foot of his bed. With her headlights under a stilt building she saw a big black upright figure stooped so it could not stand fully, which then turned and vanished into the woods in three steps. More recently while in woods about a hundred yards behind his house with his girlfriend, the guest experienced something rush toward them and stop about twenty yards away. Immediately afterward something unseen began snapping baseball-sized limbs high in the trees while he felt a threatening presence. He told his girlfriend not to run and eased out of the area.

An acquaintance who drove a bus said that years earlier while trucking across Alligator Alley at night he stopped at a lone stop sign where a damaged car sat empty with doors open and lights on. As he prepared to leave to find a phone, a massive wide-bodied hairy thing rushed from the woods to his cab, stared him in the eyes, yelled and dented his hood. At the next phone he met the car's occupants, who said they had hit one creature and then been attacked by another before fleeing with passing motorists.

At about fourteen the guest was night-fishing with his father on phosphate-mine land when his father boated out to full traps and left him alone on the bank. He heard sticks breaking and louder thrashing, then saw movement in myrtle bushes and a tall tree shaking violently while a loud whoa-whoa vocalization sounded. He fled to the locked truck, and his father dismissed the sound as a cow.
