They stopped after noticing a dark stump-like shape in the middle of the lot and, when wind moved long hair, realized it was a large hairy figure sitting cross-legged apparently asleep. They described a flat apelike face and long limbs and fled quickly to their house where they told a parent. They said they avoided the road and thicket afterward.

As a 12-year-old walking home from the school bus with five other children, the witness noticed movement from a deep ditch beside a gravel road.
