Mushroom picking couple scared out of a forest near Wilkeson
A couple were picking mushrooms in dense old-growth forest in the afternoon when they heard crunching and repeated loud thumping likened to wood knocks from about 100 yards away. A few minutes later a loud snap like a small tree or large branch breaking occurred about 20 feet behind them. Frightened, they abandoned their mushrooms and left the area without seeing the source.

The witness was leading a group morning run on a wooded trail when the group found large healthy trees blocking the track. Near the back wooded section the witness heard multiple whoop-like yells from both sides at a distance and smelled a strong musky sewage-like odor along the route. The witness ran back toward the start, where the rest of the group also reported hearing the sounds and discussing them as bigfoot calls.

After dark with snow on the ground, while driving out for dinner, the witness stopped in the woods, struck a tree with a sledgehammer to make a low thump, and moments later got a reply knock from down the ravine. He joked it must be a redneck waiting to reply.

While the first witness was upslope, the other two hunters several hundred yards away along the same ravine heard whoops, loud rapid tree knocks, owls that turned into chicken and pig sounds, rock clacking replies, and large limbs popping in mature pines. They joked about the sounds at the time as bored owls and dismissed them. They later interpreted them as intelligent mimicry and communication coming up out of the ravine.

While hunting turkey alone along a driveway, the witness stalked what looked like a turkey to a ravine shelf, felt watched, then turned and saw a tall reddish-brown upright blur retreat very close behind him. He could not explain it as deer or bird because it made no noise. He moved to the open driveway and then heard extremely loud rapid tree knocks.

The witness backpacked solo to a remote campsite and spent the night in a hammock. Throughout the night he heard knocks, screams, howls, voices, footsteps, rocks and twigs landing nearby, and felt his tarp, hammock lines and gear being touched. He also noted a bent-tree structure near camp the prior evening and disturbed logs and tree piles in the morning, but reported seeing no creature.

The witness and her adult son were camped overnight in tents at a lakeside site. At dusk the witness gave a loud whoop and heard a return whoop from across the lake, followed by elk bugling and a loud knock from behind camp. After going to bed, the witness felt something heavy step on the tent edge and push on her head through the fabric, then heard soft bipedal steps around camp until dawn when another knock was heard.

The witness was on the back porch at home around 8 p.m. when a tree-knock-like sound was heard from the woods to the northeast. About five minutes later a low rumble rising into a deep whoop-like sound was heard from the same general area. The witness went inside and turned off the exterior lights. No visual contact was reported.

Two men sat in complete darkness in a forest hotspot talking and playing harmonicas to invite contact while two companions monitored from about 100 yards with a thermal imager. After hearing a stick break and soft knocks, they reported seeing a small red-orange light near the ground that illuminated ferns and silhouetted what looked like a large finger with knuckles moving toward them before fading. They remained on site afterward playing music and talking.

About a month after moving in August 2014 the witness heard an extremely loud owl-like sound he thought could not be a real owl or person. He later heard rocks clanging, tree beating and movement over the hill. A couple months later he and his cousin heard the owl sound again, this time more like a monkey trying to imitate an owl.

During a day hike the witness left a recorder on the truck windshield to monitor activity around the vehicle. The recorder captured a prolonged grunting sequence accompanied by knocks. The witness later compared the sounds to known animals and primate recordings.

Four people on a dirt-bike trip stopped at a dirt-road intersection and heard knocking like someone hitting a tree. After finding no people or vehicles nearby, one witness knocked on a tree and two or three loud knocks answered within seconds. The group left immediately, and a search the next day found no trails or camps to explain the sounds.

The witness reported hearing repeated unexplained sounds in the timber surrounding their home, described as knock-like thumps, whistles, stomping with stick breaks, and deep growls. After the leader produced knocks, responsive knocking came from timber about 50 feet away where a shadowy figure was seen, and the leader exchanged sounds with it. The witness was camped with two children on a ridgeline near Tarryall Reservoir. On two consecutive nights the witness heard loud deep whooping calls, first from the valley below and then much closer to camp, with wood-on-wood-like banging the first night and coyotes falling silent. On the second night the witness left the tent with a rifle and light and heard something large and heavy crashing through timber with loud footsteps, then stood guard until morning and left early without telling the children.

Two people camped overnight on a ridge to do night research with call blasting and wood knocks around a fire. Through the night they heard return knocks, unidentified howls and loud sigh-like sounds, and a rock landed near one of them when he stepped away from the fire. In the morning they found a line of large flat footprints that they measured and cast.

The witness took children into woods behind a relative's house and heard distinct wood knocks alternating between two positions about every few minutes for an hour. After the witness made a whoop sound, knocks continued, then a nearby dog barked aggressively and a third position across the road knocked. The witness was driving an off-road vehicle up a snowy forest road in the afternoon when a large hairy biped crossed the road and went up the bank into the forest. The witness stopped and watched it disappear and saw nothing else for the rest of the trip. Later, while parked at the ridge top, the witness heard wood knocks estimated to be about a mile away.
Possible daylight sighting by a couple at Geneva-on-the-Lake State Park
A family of four driving through Geneva State Park in daylight stopped after noticing a large dark bipedal figure moving through snowy woods. The figure was watched briefly for about ten seconds before disappearing. Shortly after from a nearby parking lot the adults made whoop calls and heard replies described as whoops, a scream or growl, and wood knocks, while also noticing a strong unpleasant odor.

While fishing the witness heard loud knocking sounds, a loud moan-like wail, and a large splash from an unseen heavy object thrown into the water nearby. The witness knocked back with no reply and felt watched while returning to the vehicle, where a jogger said he had also heard the knocking.
