Morning hiker hears possible knocks and strange vocals in the Uwharrie National Forest
The witness was hiking alone on a forest trail in the morning when he heard pairs of loud wood knocks that seemed to answer each other as he moved. After returning toward the trailhead he heard a loud deep huff from a ditch without seeing any animal or movement. He then heard repeated guttural baby-like moans or cries from brush across the ditch that changed direction but showed no movement, prompting him to leave without entering the brush.
Another possible encounter along Appalachian Trail
The witness was solo camping at a shelter while section-hiking the Appalachian Trail. After spending the evening with a fire and making whoop calls and a wood knock with no reply, the witness went to sleep in the shelter loft. Around 2:30 a.m. the witness was awakened by a loud wood knock immediately followed by a thud interpreted as a tree being pushed over, then silence.
Possible evening interaction by a river west of Mazama
The witness and a relative crossed the river at night to search for Bigfoot, using tree knocks and vocal calls. After initial knocks got no response, the witness made a call imitating a young Sasquatch and heard a loud impact about 7-10 seconds later described as a heavy rock hitting a tree. They tried additional calls with no further response and left around 10 p.m.

Possible early morning whoops and knocks heard at a Forest Service cabin
The witness stayed overnight in a rented cabin with two children. After the children fell asleep, the witness lay awake on an uncomfortable cot and twice heard a whoop followed seconds later by a wood-knock sound from the southeast. The sounds seemed close and no source was seen; the forest had otherwise been quiet all afternoon and night.
Possible nighttime activity during a hog hunt on a ranch near Bryson
The witness and three relatives were hog hunting at night from two positions separated by several hundred yards. Around midnight they heard bipedal footsteps, grunting, whistling, whoops and reciprocal tree knocks, smelled a strong foul odor, and had small sticks thrown at their position. After a shot was fired into the ground, heavy running was heard moving toward the second position where glowing eyes were seen, and the group left around 2 a.m.
Strange incident while taking photos in the Lost Forty SNA
The witness was alone photographing old pines around noon when loud banging and knocking began after a car horn sounded. About 15 minutes later a large birch about 20 to 30 feet away was heard cracking, seen bending down and then springing back upright. The witness did not see any creature, feared an animal larger than a bear, ran back to the car, and inferred something had been in the tree watching.
Campers hear possible night-time responses near Aeneas Valley Road
The witness was camping with a group on a friend's undeveloped property and spent two nights riding ATVs to a remote spot to try imitation yells and tree knocks for fun. The group reported hearing responding knocks, high-pitched vocalizations, loud grunt-like growls from in front and behind, and a very loud tree-breaking sound, all from about 75 to 300 yards away. Nothing was ever seen, and the group left the hillside quickly after the close growls, later listening from camp.

The witness and a companion stopped off a forest road so the witness could target shoot while the companion waited at the truck. After the witness returned to the road, both heard repeated very loud cracking snaps from a wooded hilltop about 100 yards away, spaced about 30 seconds apart, along with movement and bark-ripping sounds. The witness walked partway up the hill filming with a cell phone and captured at least one loud crack before returning to the truck and leaving.
Fisherman on Lake Arthur startled by series of possible wood knocks and rock clacks
While fishing alone from a boat on Lake Arthur in the morning, the witness heard repeated wood knocks from the shoreline followed by rock clacking sounds from farther west. The alternating sequence continued for about 8-10 minutes until a passing boat caused the sounds to stop. Disturbed by the experience, the witness started the boat and moved to another part of the lake.

The witness joined relatives and local researchers for an overnight camp on a flat mountain top. Around midday he saw a tall hairy biped cross a trail and disappear into a valley with gourds. That night the group heard wood knocks and exchanged whoops and howls with something that approached to very close range, then crashed away. Later rocks were flicked at the truck and next morning a muddy hand smudge and many tracks were found.

The guest was crawling on hands and knees up an icy mountain in deep snow when he heard a loud wood-on-wood knock behind him. He turned with binoculars and watched a dark bipedal figure walk easily down a distant mountainside. He estimated it was about eight feet tall because the snow only reached mid-calf.

The wife woke in the early morning hearing seven low-volume knocks like wood striking a tree from the woods east of the house. She woke her husband, who heard nothing himself. The witness was stealth camping alone in woods near town. Late at night a powerful foul odor filled the tent, followed by bipedal footsteps circling the tent, breathing and sniffing at the tarp. After the witness shouted, the visitor growled, walked away on two feet, and wood-on-wood knocks were heard as the odor faded. The witness left the area the next morning.

While hunting deer until dark, the witness heard owl-like hoots and a howl and then hit a tree with a branch to make knocks. While walking out the witness noticed bent trees and broken branches resembling a stick structure. A few minutes later two loud knocks and a drawn-out yip, also described as including a whoop, were heard from behind, after which the witness hurried back to the truck.

The witness hiked to a riverside fishing spot on a sunny late morning after a cold night. As he came up an embankment he saw a large hairy upright animal standing in the sun about 30-40 yards away and watched it for about 15-20 seconds before speaking to it. The animal then avoided eye contact and left quickly uphill, after which the witness heard rapid knocking sounds like a drum roll from the ridge. He camped there overnight without seeing it again.
Possible knocks and vocalization heard from inside a home near Buckley
The witness was awake in bed with the window open around sunrise when two wood knocks sounding very close were followed immediately by a distant deep vocalization. The witness felt the sound was too deep and guttural to be a human, elk, coyote, or other familiar animal. The witness then got up, closed and locked the window, and heard no further noises.

The witness was hunting near a marsh trail when he found two broken turtle shells sitting on logs. After sitting to wait for deer he heard whoop-like calls from five directions for about 15 minutes, some seeming to come from trees, until he stood and the area went silent. While walking out he heard a loud bat-like crack and whooshing through nearby brush but saw nothing.

Two people hiking near a lake in a remote state forest heard loud wood knocks and a long low-pitched howl from a ridge to the east. The sounds occurred around sundown while owls were also calling. The reporter felt the howl did not come from a coyote and noted no human habitation nearby.

The witness hiked down a service road into a ravine and heard two loud wood-on-wood impacts from uphill. After returning to the vehicle for a camera battery, the witness found a line of large tracks crossing a dirt berm that had not been there earlier. The witness photographed the tracks and made a cast of the clearest impression, also noting an odd odor and a crashing sound in the area.
