One witness let dogs out in the early morning and heard a loud whoop from the woods behind the house, hearing it again when she opened the door. She ran inside frightened. The couple then went outside together and heard another whoop farther down the hollow.

Late at night the witness sat alone on a back patio watching a meteor shower. From a distance to the south he heard two loud whoop-like vocalizations he had never heard before. Through binoculars the witness saw a black-furred being from waist up behind a tree staring back until it blinked, hid, reappeared, and later vanished by bending down. The husband saw an arm, they heard knocks, a whoop and running, and later found a large bare footprint in a creek bank and an impression behind a tree.

In mid-September 2020 around 5 a.m., the witness was sitting on a tarped patio when rustling was heard behind a shed about 50 feet away. Two companions camped while hunting for five days near Dillon State Park. On successive nights they heard tree knocks from multiple directions, whistles, whoops, loud yells and screams that approached the camp, growling near the camper, and banging on vehicles in a nearby junkyard. By day they found numerous large human-like footprints in a shallow spillway and on a sandy bank, which they photographed with boots for scale. The witness and his father visited the Kendall Lake entrance late at night and made whoop and howl calls while recording. While walking out the witness noticed bent trees and broken branches resembling a stick structure. A few minutes later two loud knocks and a drawn-out yip, also described as including a whoop, were heard from behind, after which the witness hurried back to the truck.

The witness was at home in bed when repeating loud whoop-like sounds woke him and seemed to approach the house, getting louder and more frequent. He woke his wife, who also heard the sound, and went to the back door with a shotgun. When the sound was very close, he fired three rounds toward it, after which the vocalizations stopped and the source receded through the woods behind the house and was never heard again.

A family of four driving through Geneva State Park in daylight stopped after noticing a large dark bipedal figure moving through snowy woods. The figure was watched briefly for about ten seconds before disappearing. Shortly after from a nearby parking lot the adults made whoop calls and heard replies described as whoops, a scream or growl, and wood knocks, while also noticing a strong unpleasant odor.

The witness and his wife were night-fishing with family at Tappan Lake in summer 2010. While walking back toward their van to get another chair, they heard repeated whooping sounds nearby in the dark woods. Unfamiliar with the sound, the witness told his wife it was an owl.
