Family and friends hear two whoops from an unknown creature outside Mikado
Seven people standing outside a rural home at night smelled a foul odor and heard a loud whoop from the woods across the street. The husband retrieved a gun and sent the children inside, then imitated the whoop. A fainter whoop was then heard replying from farther away.

Around 2 a.m. on a clear night in late October, the witness heard growls and other noises outside his home and went out with a flashlight to investigate. He reported a strong dead-animal odor, movement across the road, and green eyeshine, then watched a tall dark bipedal animal cross the road into his woods and viewed it at close range in the treeline before retreating to the house. He reported hearing noises through the rest of the night and finding a few tracks afterward.

The witness and his family were staying at a friend's cabin on Lake Superior and getting ready for bed around 9:30 p.m. From thick pines to the west, the witness heard repeated loud rising whoops in pairs separated by pauses. He described the sound as very loud, echoing, and primate-like, unlike any animal he knew from years outdoors.

He called his son out, heard snaps and a whoop, and later saw the legs taking big strides on the ridge. They waited by the fire until it went quiet.
