Two hikers were descending a road when they heard multiple loud tree knocks, had rocks thrown past them, smelled an intense stench, and one of them saw a dark figure watching. They fled downhill toward their vehicle while using an air horn, heard a loud guttural whoop near the car, and reported being followed for several miles.

He heard an unusually deep throat-clearing sound, then about 20 minutes later heard two rocks land near the tent with loud thuds. The witness and a companion were resting quietly on a rocky outcropping during a daytime hike when they heard a low growl-like exhalation immediately followed by a higher-pitched whoop from the forest below. The sounds were attributed to a single unseen animal about 30-40 yards away that seemed startled by a passing mountain biker. They searched the area a few minutes later but found nothing and heard nothing further.

The witness was camped with two children on a ridgeline near Tarryall Reservoir. On two consecutive nights the witness heard loud deep whooping calls, first from the valley below and then much closer to camp, with wood-on-wood-like banging the first night and coyotes falling silent. On the second night the witness left the tent with a rifle and light and heard something large and heavy crashing through timber with loud footsteps, then stood guard until morning and left early without telling the children.

The witness was scouting high-elevation timber for a later elk hunt when he noticed tree breaks, pushovers and tracks. From boulders he glassed about eight hairy bipeds with young, watching them for about half an hour as some appeared to hide at a choke point while others circled. He concluded they were hunting deer and left with his companion before dark.

While on a group hunting trip in the mountains, the witness heard whoops in the early morning. In the morning a nearby camp said their tent had been pelted with rocks around 1 a.m. and wondered if the witness group had done it. The teller noted many things can make such sounds.
