While camping near town, the reporter waited outside a restroom before dawn and heard a loud tree knock from the north. Shortly after returning to the trailer, the reporter and a companion heard a single whoop from the east, followed by a brief burst of calling jays. Later that morning the group heard additional knocks and whoops from the west, southeast, and south.

After evening knocking sounds and a strong musky odor at night, a large human-like creature with yellow eyes appeared at the witness's tent, grabbed it, lifted and dropped the witness inside, then left in a few steps after a shot was fired. The group saw large footprints, later heard whoops from multiple directions, and had a basketball-sized rock thrown at their truck while leaving.

After waiting silently, the witness heard whoop-like vocalizations above and below that seemed to communicate and track movement. A family was camped in a trailer near a treeline with a deer carcass stored nearby. During the night the family was awakened by rocks hitting the trailer, knocking sounds, growls, screams and whoops. The witness later went outside with a flashlight and saw a single glowing red eye high in the treeline. In the morning stacked rocks were gone, footprints were found, and a large pine by the carcass had been pushed over.
Husband and wife have a possible encounter in a KOA campground north of Crescent City
A couple camping on an isolated site finished dinner and sat by a campfire when the wife felt watched and fearful. The husband searched with lights and briefly saw movement in the trees about 30 feet away, including what looked like a large dark lower leg. While inside the trailer the wife heard two to three whooping sounds from that wooded area.

Three people arrived at a meadow campsite in dark early morning hours and heard a loud call-and-answer exchange of whoops from unseen sources to the southwest and southeast. The group stayed a week without seeing anyone else, and the reporter later suggested the sounds might have been Bigfoot.

From the forested canyon to the west they heard a series of about ten loud whoop-howl calls with pauses between them. Normal background wildlife noise stopped during the calls and resumed shortly after, with no answers or repeats and no visual contact.

The witness was camping with family in Monache Meadows when loud echoing whoops were heard from nearby late at night. The whoops came in pairs and were then joined by coyote howls and sounds of a violent chase that receded into the distance. No visual observation was made and the group did not search the area the next day.

The daughter went to the access road to meet the caller and saw a large, hair-covered, unclothed being with a long beard, long arms and a big mouth walking quickly past. She said it did not see her and was not vocalizing when seen. The next morning the family found a few possible wide-toed prints in the dust at the spot she indicated.

The witness and a relative were camping overnight when they heard a loud whooping sound nearby followed by loud crunching like branches breaking. A girl was heard screaming after the whooping. In the morning they found large footprints near their tent measuring about 12 to 16 inches long, which they felt were too large for a bear.

The witness was camping with family at Sugar Pine Campground when whooping and long wailing sounds were heard coming from the forest behind the camp. Frightened, the witness ran into the family trailer. Years later the witness heard similar recorded sounds online and concluded the sounds had been those of a sasquatch.

Six people camping at a forested lake campground heard a repeating whistle-whoop followed by an intense screech three times overnight, first from across a meadow, then from behind camp, then from very close to the tents. Each time they searched with flashlights and a spotlight but saw no eyes or movement apart from a small fox on the road. The next morning they found no tracks or other sign around the site and lake shore, and later doubted the fox could have made such intense sounds.

The witness parked by a river to fish for steelhead on a rainy winter afternoon and heard two loud whoop-like bellows. While wading downstream the witness saw two tall, hair-covered figures standing motionless across the river and noticed a cocoon-like bundle of grass on a root wad. After fishing back upstream the witness looked back to find the figures and object gone, and a return visit the next day was blocked by flooding.

The witness and his father were camping overnight in a canyon campsite. After dinner while sitting at the campfire they heard a distant loud howl from toward the canyon entrance that was answered by a whoop from behind camp. The two sounds continued in call-and-response for about 10-15 minutes and seemed to move closer and shift position, prompting them to load their guns. The sounds then stopped, and fresh snow overnight prevented any track search the next morning.

The witness was sleeping alone on a rock ledge above a drainage when she heard loud repetitive whooping and howling from far below. The source moved rapidly uphill, climbed a steep cliff to the ledge, and ran past her toward the peak above, pausing briefly to look toward her. It then vocalized from the top of the peak until near sunrise, and she left the area at first light.
