The witness and his wife were night-fishing with family at Tappan Lake in summer 2010. While walking back toward their van to get another chair, they heard repeated whooping sounds nearby in the dark woods. Unfamiliar with the sound, the witness told his wife it was an owl. His wife later heard the same sound on a television show and became convinced it was not an owl.

The witness was pulling his canoe out of the Sipsey River at dusk to load it for transport when he heard a series of very loud, powerful whoops from a distance, followed after a pause by three more. After two people kayaked back to the cars and two returned, the two in kayaks had two very large rocks land in the water near them as they approached shore in darkness. One had earlier seen green eyeshine near the campsite on the first return. Finding no other people on the island, they packed up and left during the night.

The witness was sitting with two companions around a fire behind the house near a wooded swamp late at night. They repeatedly heard a long whoop-like growling sound from the woods but saw nothing. The first occurrence was in late summer 2008, and similar sounds were heard again in March 2009.

On the evening of Feb. 14, 2009, the witness and her husband were in their upstairs bedroom with the windows open when they heard unusual monkey-like whooping sounds from the woods around the house. The witness was changing a tire on his car at about 10PM when he heard powerful whooping calls from the woods behind his residence, followed by wood knocks. He said the calls resembled those he had heard on this site. The witness and his father took a harvested deer to another cabin at night to dress it. While the witness was cleaning the deer, a loud rising whoop followed by three shorter whoops was heard from beyond the cabin and lasted several seconds.
