The witness and a relative were camped in a tent on a deer lease near a creek and river in Texas. Late at night they heard distant whooping calls that approached along the water to close range and continued for over an hour, ending with a deep powerful growl while the surrounding woods went silent. The witness reported falling asleep out of fear during the sounds, and no visual encounter was described.

The husband saw an arm, they heard knocks, a whoop and running, and later found a large bare footprint in a creek bank and an impression behind a tree.

After moving onto a wooded hillside property, the witness and family began hearing loud whooping and prolonged howling that did not sound like known animals. On one night while inside the house, the witness heard chattering and grunting right outside the door that stopped when the door was opened. The sounds were unfamiliar and recurred close to the home.

The witness and his college friend were walking a valley when the friend whooped and received two whoops back from another direction. The witness then saw a small jet-black upright figure peeking from behind a tree. Loud beating like metal, laughter-like chatter, and footsteps on multiple sides followed them as they left uphill toward the house.

The witness rode an ATV to the back of the family property on a winter night with snow and ice. A light reflected eyes in a tree, then something growled, showed large teeth, and approached as snow crunched. The witness fled on the ATV to the truck, hid overnight hearing screaming and whooping, and became ill afterward.

Two hikers on an advanced trail in the Holyoke Range heard whistles, whoops and other calls coming from both sides of the trail. They felt surrounded and followed for about a mile or roughly 45 minutes until reaching other hikers. Thick foliage prevented any visual identification of the source, which they said did not match familiar local wildlife.

On August 8, 2020 at about 9:30 p.m., the witness was camping alone near the Saint Joe River when he heard three loud, drawn-out whoops from the hillside above and to the east over his music. He turned off his speaker and heard no further vocalizations, and the area became very quiet. He made a whooping sound back, received no answer, and it remained quiet the rest of the night. No other campers were nearby.
