The witness and his father were camping overnight in a canyon campsite. After dinner while sitting at the campfire they heard a distant loud howl from toward the canyon entrance that was answered by a whoop from behind camp. The two sounds continued in call-and-response for about 10-15 minutes and seemed to move closer and shift position, prompting them to load their guns. The sounds then stopped, and fresh snow overnight prevented any track search the next morning.

The witness was sleeping alone on a rock ledge above a drainage when she heard loud repetitive whooping and howling from far below. The source moved rapidly uphill, climbed a steep cliff to the ledge, and ran past her toward the peak above, pausing briefly to look toward her. It then vocalized from the top of the peak until near sunrise, and she left the area at first light.
Possible approaches to a boat ramp on Kootenay Lake
The witness reports sleeping aboard a boat moored in a marina slip and repeatedly hearing a heavy visitor come down the metal access ramp late at night and walk across the floating docks, displacing the dock enough to rock the boat. The steps sound widely spaced and cover the ramp and dock sections unusually quickly. The pattern recurred at least once each summer holiday over several years, with a bucket of fish offal sometimes found emptied afterward and whoop-like vocalizations also heard.
Recollection of seeing a huge bipedal shadow while camping that steals food near Steelville
The witness was camping alone in a tall tent when something large approached at night. A tall shadow with broad shoulders was cast on the tent by an outside lantern. The visitor opened food containers, ate bread, growled, overturned a cooler and carried off meat before leaving toward the river where vocalizations were heard. Large footprints and teeth marks were found the following morning.

The witness and companions were setting off bottle rockets with loud music playing near a river late at night. They heard repeated rising whoop vocalizations that seemed about a mile away and grew louder as they continued. The surrounding forest was described as unusually quiet. Frightened, the group left the area immediately.

The witness was sleeping in a parked semi-truck in a pine forest with an alarm set for 4:15 a.m. The witness awoke minutes early, stepped out to look around and saw nothing, then got back in the truck. While back inside, the witness heard a loud high-pitched whooping sound echoing through the forest that the witness had never heard before.
Campers menaced after dark by what they assume was a family group
A group camping above a swollen river heard mumbling voices and stick-breaking approaching, followed by loud chanting, shouting and stomping that shook a log seat and was taken as a demand to leave. The sounds stopped after deep hooted calls and later receded to distant screams up the valley and across the mountain. Later, while in a tent, the witness saw the firelight blocked by a squatting silhouette that touched the zipper with five digits, with felt breath and strong odor, before withdrawing. In the morning the witness noted hairs and deep depressions on the trail.

After moving a trailer to a remote timber edge, a woman and companion endured months of shaking, objects thrown and small ape-like figures on the roof. Once a larger six to seven foot figure was seen in a tree making whooping sounds as the group left. After they began leaving food out, the disturbances reportedly stopped.

The witness was part of a demolitions training convoy descending to a staging area when three hair-covered bipedal creatures were seen watching from the middle of a quarry. The middle individual was tallest and stood still while the two smaller flankers rocked side to side. The daytime sighting lasted about 25-30 seconds, shortly after a whoop-like sound was heard from beyond the work area.

During an evening hunt the witness and a relative followed the blood trail of a wounded deer. The trail grew faint and straight over obstacles, leading them to infer the deer was being carried. From across a clearing they heard an extremely loud roaring howl, answering growls and whoop-like replies, plus heavy footsteps on a fire lane mistaken for the witness. They never saw the source and later searches found no carcass or sign.

The witness was woken by their mother after she heard a strange noise outside their Burney apartment. The witness waited on the porch and heard a very loud, guttural sequence of chirps and a scream, and noticed a pungent odor worse than skunk. No source was seen during a search, but the next morning a next-door neighbor said someone had been outside her elevated back window overnight.

The witness and a relative were lying in a tent at a forest camp at night when they heard a bipedal approach, a fast high-pitched whooping sound, and circling movement around the tent lasting much of the night. The presence at times breathed audibly next to the tent and ran off with heavy-sounding footsteps before returning quietly. In the morning they looked for tracks but found too much forest litter to see any.

The witness and seven relatives camped for several nights on a hunting trip and heard repeated double whoop vocalizations each evening from dusk until just after dark. The sounds came from ridges around camp, with a regular source to the west and additional answering sources to the southeast and north on later nights. The witness said the sounds resembled examples on the archive site and were unlike familiar animal sounds of the region.

A week later the witness returned to the same woods with a relative and dogs. Footsteps followed them and stopped when they stopped, then something circled them whooping and making gibberish sounds while another answered from the right. Trees sounded like they were being ripped up and the dogs fled the area.

The guest was fishing alone for catfish at night from a low creek bank with a lantern turned low. He heard something run on bare feet across a road, grab a guardrail, and slide down riprap rocks toward the creek. He then heard movement in cane, a whoop followed by a long vocalization, saw widely spaced reddish-orange eyeshine, and heard baseball-sized rocks hitting the water before it moved away.

The witness describes riding horses with a friend for several days and stopping at a spring. He walked to a cliff after smelling a strong odor and saw a huge hairy human-like figure. He spoke to it, heard it grunt and growl, heard a distant whoop and a loud tongue-pop like a wood knock, then watched it climb the cliff with its arms and disappear.

The witness was bass fishing along a lake bank when a commotion in nearby woods drew attention. A large upright apelike creature about seven to eight feet tall emerged, made whoop sounds and a low growl, snapped off a small tree and slapped the ground while staring with flexed muscles. The witness slowly backed away looking down, the animal followed a short distance then turned, paused near a bushy spot, and walked into the woods. The witness rejoined companions who laughed, and has not returned to the area.

The main witness had just entered a companion's car for the trip to school when an animal-like figure emerged from a roadside swamp. It paused crouched, started across the road and then ran quickly on all fours into woods. Both occupants were frightened and puzzled by what they had seen.
Whoops and knocks heard by four locals camping north of Bristol
Four young people camped overnight in a wooded area in summer 1987. During the night they heard knocking, whooping, and footsteps around their tent, and something stepped on a companion's hand through the tent wall. Two of them looked outside but saw nothing, hearing only something heavy moving away quickly. Years later they interpreted the incident as a Bigfoot encounter.

Two companions were camped for bass fishing at a remote pond in the national forest when they heard loud repeated whooping calls, first from up the mountain and later from less than 50 feet behind their tent. They remained still in the tent while the close calls continued for several minutes before silence returned. In the morning they found their fuel can neatly covered with stacked stones and a stringered fish missing, which they attributed to the unseen caller.
