A couple camping at a campground in the north-central Washington Cascades heard loud, powerful calls beginning shortly before dusk and continuing through the night. The sounds were described as unfamiliar, alternating between deep guttural tones and high-pitched tones, and seeming to come from two sources that moved toward each other along a creek drainage. The witnesses spent the night in their car and left at dawn without searching the brush for tracks.

The witness left fish out near a lakeside camp and went to sleep in a tent. During the night something entered camp, disturbed the fish can, and then ran into a swamp making loud noise. After the group built a fire and returned to tents, prolonged loud screams were heard from across the lake for about 30 minutes despite shooting, yelling and banging pots.

After a second loud call they fled toward the house while a third call sounded from behind. In late June or early July 1981, the witness was sleeping on the floor of a friend's home when awakened by an unusual humming and grumbling sound. She saw the outline of a large broad-shouldered figure with a muscular arm and hand cupped to look through a high upper window, which she estimated would require at least seven feet of height. The figure looked in for about a minute, then walked around the house into the woods as the humming resumed. A search the next morning found no tracks in the hard-packed dirt.
