He realized afterward the stride and arm swing seemed unusual and compared it to the Patterson film he had seen earlier. He and his companion later checked the rocky campsite but found no tracks.

At age ten the guest was on a ferry from Seattle to Victoria crossing Admiralty Inlet. Passengers noticed a large black figure swimming in the wake toward Whidbey Island with plainly visible arms. Another passenger suggested it was a Bigfoot, which prompted the guest's later interest.
