They saw large brown legs cross the trail ahead and noticed branches rustling in a nearby group of trees, which the witness attributed to a sasquatch watching them. The two observers stayed by the fire overnight, and a next-day search found no tracks or other sign.

The witness, then a 10-year-old boy, was catching reptiles in a dry creek bed behind his grandparents' rural property when a tall slender ape-like female appeared across the creek with an infant. He crouched and pretended to eat vegetation to avoid provoking her while they observed each other for several minutes. A taller darker male then emerged, bared his teeth and displayed aggressively, and the female positioned herself between the male and the boy. Both creatures then left into the brush, and the boy ran home and told his grandmother, who said she believed him.

The witness returned with a friend in law enforcement to camp at the same area. Friday night they heard close footsteps and saw hogs, Saturday they measured the sighting location and saw broken vegetation, and Saturday evening the friend silently alerted and later said a creature watched them from about 15 feet. On leaving they found fresh teepee-like grass structures with the same foul smell, and afterward both were questioned by supervisors who called it a bear.
