The witness and a companion were driving at night on a lightly traveled road between the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff when they saw a tall hair-covered biped walking on the shoulder. They stopped about 50 yards away and watched it turn to face the headlights, pause and look curious, then take a step toward the car. After the companion screamed it strode into the forest in a few strides, and the pair drove widely around the spot and left the area.

The figure disappeared into the wash after about 5 to 8 seconds, and the witness continued the hunt without following or searching for tracks.

The witness and a companion were driving slowly on a dirt lane through ponderosa pine forest at night when their headlights illuminated a tall hair-covered figure crossing from left to right in front of the car. The figure walked upright with a human-like gait and continued into the woods without looking at or reacting to the car. The witness estimated it at about seven feet tall and 400 pounds with camel-colored hair and a barrel chest.

The witness was driving on a dirt road near Prescott at dusk when a large ape-like animal appeared moving parallel to the road just inside the tree line. The witness braked to a stop and watched it walk through a gap in the trees about 100 meters away for about 10 seconds before it disappeared into the forest. The animal was described as tall, very muscular and reddish-brown with longer arm hair and little or no neck, and it never looked toward the car.

It first moved on all fours with its hindquarters raised and walking sideways while watching them, then stood and ran on two legs leaning forward with no arm swing and a smooth gliding motion. The father stopped, got out and fired several pistol shots as it fled around a bend, after which it gave a loud roar or scream. The group continued to camp for three days, during which the father remained nervous and jumped up armed during the night.
