While working it free in the dark, they felt something slap the side and rock the vehicle side to side without seeing what it was. They freed the Jeep, drove fast to meet the witness, and ran to his truck keeping hands on the hood.

The two friends got the Jeep stuck in a puddle while out of sight of the witness. They reported that something slapped the side of the hard-shell Jeep and then rocked it side to side by the roof. They could not see what it was because of darkness and canopy, then freed the Jeep and drove to meet the witness.
