A young man and friends had two consecutive night encounters with an unknown creature
In February 1977 five youths camped in two VW buses at a remote, densely forested campground in the Trinity Alps. On two consecutive nights around 10:30 p.m., something rushed down the steep hill behind camp and violently rocked the bus the witness slept in. The first morning packs were found strewn and torn open; the second night a large boulder was found wedged behind the bus tire and the other bus had shifted about five feet toward the river. The group reported seeing nothing because windows were iced over, noting only hillside skid marks, rushing noises, and a brief strong odor before leaving early.

A family camping at Sunrise Beach heard branch-breaking sounds overnight and the next morning found a very large footprint in a dried creek bed. Shortly after, they saw a large brownish hair-covered creature watching them from behind a tree on a hillside, which then walked away toward the campground road. The father also reported seeing it cross the road ahead while lifting a wire out of its way, and the family quickly left the area.

They then heard crashes, a cackle and growl, and something like a steamroller coming through the woods parting the treetops. The witness was camping with family near the Elwah River and was sitting outside after others went to sleep when a rock struck the tent twice. The family moved to their car, and the witness later stood outside in darkness sensing a very tall man-like presence nearby, hearing breathing, footsteps and snapping twigs and smelling a musky foul odor. After headlights showed nothing, the odor and sense of unease lifted and the family returned to the tent for the night before breaking camp the next day.

The witness and two companions were snow sledding at night when they heard loud noise and commotion beyond their firelight and fled to the house. The next day they returned and found very large tracks in the snow leading from and back into nearby woods, with tracks around a tree with stripped branches. They did not see the source of the sound and report no further experiences since.

During rabbit season in 1976 the witness was hunting with four companions in dense snowy woods when he became separated. He heard an extremely loud sound and then had a roughly five-second view of a huge dark brown bipedal figure running at full speed. He later told his companions, who suggested it was a deer, but he insisted it was not.

At about age 12, the witness and a companion were hunting raccoons at night along a creek. They noticed a strong foul odor and heard a large splash as if someone fell into the water. When they reached the spot no one was visible and only disturbed murky water remained. A few days later a flood fence in the area was found torn up.

The witness returned at dusk to check catfish lines on a river on a relative's land after hunting. After hearing loud breathing and smelling a strong odor, the witness saw a roughly six-foot wet fur-covered figure about ten feet away with river scum on its side, which stood still. The witness fled immediately, returned with a relative the next morning to find no tracks but estimate height from a nearby branch, and has since avoided the area.

The witness and a companion were hiking in upland terrain when they separated on opposite sides of a draw. The witness heard a loud crash and rapid thudding sounds, then saw a tall hairy figure running toward the companion from several hundred yards away. After shouting warnings and a shotgun shot, the figure reversed direction and left, and both hikers departed quickly.

The witness recalls numerous puzzling occurrences from 30-40 years ago on a family farm of about 100 acres with orchards and woods. These included trees reportedly moved to block trails, an elaborate woven arch structure, large human-like footprints with long strides, rocks and a branch thrown near the witness, loud clicking exchanges, and nighttime disturbances around the barn and house. No creature was reportedly seen clearly, and the interpretation as possible Sasquatch activity developed over later years.

Through brush about 50 yards away, the witness saw a large gray-brown hairy animal crouched over a burrow digging with hand-like limbs and making grunting sounds. When it began to shift toward the witness, the witness fled to campus and reported the sighting to school staff.

The witness was traveling with family members when their vehicle pulled over and everyone got out. The group noticed many large footprints in sand along a small river leading uphill toward the forest. They then heard a noise from the ridge across the river and briefly saw a large creature moving bipedally over the ridge out of sight, after which they got back in the vehicle and left.

Late on a warm clear night in July 1975, the witness heard a loud noise in the woods in front of the house. Looking out, the witness saw two very large red eyes positioned too high for a deer and heard slow heavy breathing. After retrieving a flashlight the figure was gone, and the next morning the ground at the spot was heavily trampled but with no clear prints.

Large boulders then came down the hillside toward them, prompting them to flee uphill. As they ran, the writer glanced back and saw a large black shape disappearing over the hillside.

The witness woke in bed at night and saw a large silhouetted figure with wide shoulders looking through a high bedroom window for about five minutes. The figure appeared to watch and breathe loudly, moving slightly when the witness moved, then turned and left. The witness ran to a parent, who went outside, saw nothing but noticed a strong smell. By morning two pet rabbits kept outside were gone, with no damage to the cage.

A resident woke in bed to what sounded like a marching band tuning up downstairs while others remained asleep. He went downstairs to check and found the family dog sound asleep at the bottom of the steps, which deepened his unease about the noise.
