The witness was sleeping alone in a tent on a group camping trip when a strong odor woke them. A large hairy arm reached in through the tent flap, felt around, then withdrew. The witness then perceived two tall figures outside through the tent fabric and heard male and female vocalizations as the beings yelled and ran away.

The witness was walking home on a road late at night when they noticed a man-like silhouette standing on a hill with its upper half visible above scrub brush. Both the witness and the figure fled in opposite directions. The night was bright and moonlit, and tree frogs were unusually quiet.

A tall figure stepped out from behind a tree close to them, prompting them to flee to camp, arm themselves, and enlarge the fire. For about 45 minutes they heard heavy footsteps from multiple directions and watched several figures circling and staring from just beyond the light until the adults returned and the group left for town.

A large silhouette crossed the driveway entrance twice, then stopped at the top, looked at them and gave a short grunt. Frightened, they dropped their bikes and ran back to the house, later retrieving the bikes with the neighbor's help and riding home.

The witness was overseeing a large group of youths at a nighttime bivouac and had just settled them to sleep when he noticed a tall dark silhouette standing beyond the tents. The figure stayed in place, moving its upper body slightly as if surveying the area, while the witness slowly backed toward staff to retrieve a flashlight. When he returned with light the figure was gone, and a check at daybreak found flat open ground with no object that could have explained the shape.

Three companions were night-fishing from a log on a river about 1 a.m. when large splashes and watermelon-sized rocks thrown from the opposite bank soaked them. In dim lantern light they saw two huge figures standing on a ledge across the uncrossable river, swaying, with glowing greenish eyes. They shouted at the figures, another rock was thrown near them downstream, and they fled on foot to their vehicle.

Three children were playing in a densely wooded area when they heard a loud crack like a stepped-on stick. They saw a tall hairy man-like figure watching them from near old vehicles and a ditch. The figure moved into full view, grabbed a tree branch and leaned forward to look at them, after which all three fled and did not return.

In August 1981 the witness rode a motorcycle up forest roads to a high peak near the North Fork. Near the treeline he uncovered a large old barefoot-like track and later from the summit saw a head-and-shoulders shadow watching from the dark treeline. The shape was gone when he looked back after viewing the panorama, and he rode quickly back down the mountain.

In late June or early July 1981, the witness was sleeping on the floor of a friend's home when awakened by an unusual humming and grumbling sound. She saw the outline of a large broad-shouldered figure with a muscular arm and hand cupped to look through a high upper window, which she estimated would require at least seven feet of height. The figure looked in for about a minute, then walked around the house into the woods as the humming resumed. A search the next morning found no tracks in the hard-packed dirt.

At about age 10 the witness and a friend left a backyard tent around 1-2 AM to go to a store. Under a streetlight they saw a massive hairy profile walk out of a park and pass within arm's reach into a field. They froze, then fled home and stayed in the tent until noon.

Near a lit barn she saw a very tall shadow, ran, and felt it breathing over her head. Her dog intervened and was picked up and thrown over a pool, suffering severe tearing, and hairs not belonging to the dog were later found in its mouth.

They went to the back door and watched a large black hairy figure step over a chain-link fence and walk into the woods. The witness was home watching a baseball game when a strange noise from the back porch prompted investigation with a pistol. The witness reported seeing a large dark upright shadow-like figure running toward the woods, firing shots, then seeing it again near an old stable and firing again without hitting it. Afterwards the witness found a porch freezer broken into with frozen food scattered, plus white hairs and ground impressions.

Three college students walked back to their dorms along railway tracks at night after buying snacks. Ahead of them a dark shape crossed the tracks and briefly blocked a distant streetlight. A short distance later they smelled a strong wet-dog odor and the reporter saw a tall creature at close range with shining eyes. The group fled to their dorm, later drove back for another look without approaching closely, and the reporter retrieved dropped groceries the next day.

In May 1980 [name withheld] and a friend skied at night up the closed Highway 242 toward Middle Sister to claim the season's first summit entry. They were followed for hours by something screaming, breathing heavily, breaking branches and circling on two legs, forcing them to shelter in a road grader. After it left they found large human-like tracks with toes crossing a creek and in the woods, then abandoned the climb and skied out.

The witness was camping with relatives south of Crater Lake and sleeping alone in a tent at night. While lying in a sleeping bag, the witness heard footsteps approach from the wooded side and saw a human-like outline shadowed in a distant campfire glow. The figure bumped the corner of the tent, shaking it, paused as if staring, then moved toward the front where it could no longer be heard on pavement.

The witness was waiting above ground while two companions explored a pit, sitting reading in a jeep in a grassy clearing. He noticed a dark form moving in the treeline and called out, thinking it was the landowner, then moved to a power-line opening for a clearer view. The figure paused and stared for about 10 seconds, appearing as a 6-7 foot tall biped covered in long dark brown fur/hair, before walking away into the trees.

An older relative noticed something at the high kitchen window, prompting several men to go outside with firearms. The grandfather fired a shotgun toward the rear of the house while the witness, locked out front, saw the outline of a shoulder and head with reflective eyes near the roofline. The group regrouped inside, and dogs normally around the house were absent that night but returned frightened in the morning.
