Scream exchanges heard by camper on Appalachian Trail near Greenwood Lake
The witness hiked to a bedrock outcropping to camp overnight. Around midnight the witness awoke and heard a loud high-pitched scream from about 100 yards away. The witness shouted back and exchanged screams for about an hour, including screams later heard from a different direction, while throwing gathered stones toward the sounds. In the morning the witness found dry leaves in the sound area and was puzzled at hearing no movement noise.

When the witness was a young child, the witness and a companion were chopping a rotted fallen tree with hammers far out in a swamp. On the second night the activity escalated and he heard powerful lion-like roars and screams from about 50 feet away that left him terrified. In the morning he found a large human-like footprint about 15 inches long near his kayak and left the area.
