The witness saw a figure run behind a parked semi, then saw a clawed hand and a werewolf-like face peering around it and heard a deep growl. The witness froze and then dragged the injured dog inside. The two hunters dragged a small buck into a clearing to gut it and left a knife stuck in the ground. They walked a short distance back toward camp, realized the knife was forgotten, and returned within minutes. The entire gut pile, blood, and lower leg sections were gone without drag marks, leaving only smashed grass leading away.

The following fall archery opener, five hunters camped at the same site and the guest shot a buck in hot weather, butchering it and hanging the inedible carcass across the creek about nine feet up. After 10 p.m. they heard heavy footfalls and feeding grunts, fired guns to scare the animal, found the carcass pulled down, rehung it higher twice with the same result, then listened as it stripped rib meat requiring great grip strength. One companion left for Alaska afterward and the guest never returned to the area.
