The witness was awakened by barking dogs and went out with a rifle to check the property. Something rushed past in the dark and the witness fired shots, then resupplied and smelled a strong fecal and wet-grass odor. From a rooftop perch the witness watched a tall dark figure by a school bus that looked toward him, crouched, then ran away, accompanied by strange howl-growl sounds from dogs nearby.

In October 2001 on a late afternoon in Woodville, Texas, the witness looked out her kitchen window while cooking and saw a large black hairy biped standing motionless in profile about 50-60 feet away beside a tall tree. She watched it for a few minutes, then looked away to collect herself and found it gone, apparently having left toward the adjoining woods. A relative searched the yard with a gun but found no sign, hearing only distant gunshots and unfamiliar men shouting in the woods.

In the flashlight beam several yards away he saw a man-like, hair-covered animal judged to be about eight feet tall and noticed a urine-like odor. Near the area of a childhood sighting he smelled the same strong pungent odor and heard heavy, widely spaced footsteps moving through overgrown brush. He froze and backed away as the steps receded, feeling the impacts and hearing vegetation being broken aside, sensing other watchers but no aggression and feeling the creature remembered him.

The figure remained still for a couple minutes, then stood, stepped into the open to look at the boat, and walked slowly uphill into denser forest. A companion in the boat also smelled the odor but did not see the figure.
