Native family along the Umatilla River reports possible encounters
The witness and her husband took two nieces to wade at a swimming hole under a railroad bridge. While the husband explored the wooded edge alone, he heard whisper-like voices and mirrored footsteps that left him uneasy. As he rejoined the group and recounted the experience, a large limb flew from the trees into the water, followed by a loud splash and grunt from the same area. The group apologized, left tobacco, and departed without investigating further because of the children.

The witness describes three years of repeated encounters after his family moved onto a wooded hillside property. Four ape-like animals repeatedly approached the trailers, peered in windows, vocalized at night, left tracks, damaged structures, and killed livestock. The father shot the largest animal in the shoulder near the pump house, after which the animals moved faster and more cautiously but continued the activity. Forestry and law-enforcement visitors reportedly told the father to stop shooting, and timber workers and well drillers also encountered the animals.

A logger living in a mobile home at a remote logging site reported being followed, having objects thrown, and seeing ape-like creatures. He told family that one paced and growled at him as he returned home. After about two months without contact, outsiders called police, who found the home destroyed and all but a young daughter dead; the daughter was said to have later been institutionalized.
