The witness left her remote cabin in the evening to go to the outhouse when her guard dog hid under the cabin and she heard something large crashing through nearby alders. She went back inside to get her husband, who also heard crashing through the trees. The next morning they found alders snapped off about four feet up along a flattened trail but found no tracks.

On graduation night in 1982, the witness hid at the edge of a field to blow a predator call as a prank on camping classmates. In 1977 the witness, an Army instructor at Fort Lewis, was alone grading trainees on a night exercise when he smelled a foul rotten-egg odor and heard brush rustling and branches breaking. He saw a pair of eyes staring at him as a creature moved left to right in front of him, then left the area, after which the odor and sounds stopped. He was frightened and hid, and a next-day search found no tracks.

When he stepped toward it, the shape stood up, turned, and crashed through the alders and down over a hill toward a creek while he ran home. In July 1977 the witness was helping a relative fix fence on a hill behind the ranch around noon. He and the relative saw two tall pine trees sway inside the fence line and then heard a loud yelling uhhing sound. They found several fence posts pulled from the ground and saw movement. They ordered whoever was there to show themselves and then fired, finding no blood or other result, and the unit was shipped out much earlier than originally scheduled.

The researcher was sitting in a truck with two companions near Mount St Helens when a bluff charge occurred. They heard pacing, a tree knock, heavy footsteps running toward and past the truck, then branches breaking as the animal walked away. No one was struck and activity stopped afterward.

Believing it was a neighbor, he called out while armed. The light faded out. Searching the area revealed dense sticker bushes, a valley and hill that should have made noisy movement.
