The guest spent the night in a deer blind on his sister's property to hunt for food. Around 2 a.m. he was awakened by extremely loud gorilla-like bellows, howls, and a snarling growl that seemed to vibrate through his body. He heard something moving and circling the blind in the leaves. After it moved off toward the river and vocalized again at a distance, he remained in the blind until daylight.

The vocal exchange lasted about five to seven minutes before the animals appeared to move away upstream over a bluff.
