Late at night the witness went to let his dogs out at his mountain home and heard prolonged loud deep screaming and howl-like vocalizations estimated to be about a half mile away. The sounds continued intermittently for about 15 minutes while the night was otherwise quiet. The witness's dogs refused to go outside. No creature was seen.

The witness was driving home at night with four relatives when the group noticed something beside the road. The driver turned around and approached on foot with a flashlight, then saw a large dark-haired animal stand upright about 30 feet away in a borrow pit. In May 2023 the witness camped overnight with four companions at a secluded site off Dry Creek Trail north of Boise. Unable to sleep, the witness heard three long howls from different directions across the valley, described as similar to a known Ohio recording but longer. The companions reportedly did not hear the sounds, and no further howls occurred that night.
