Coon hunters observe large, hairy "monkey" in pin oak
Late at night in 1963, the witness and four companions were hunting raccoons with dogs in a creek bottom south of Tyler, Texas. After the dogs treed something, the group illuminated a large reddish-furred animal in a pin oak that was howling and screaming while waving its arms and shaking limbs. After someone fired at it with a .22, it growled and the group fled with the dogs back to their vehicles.

The witness followed the local guide into the treeline and a large log was thrown end-over-end toward them, hitting a tree. On leaving they found a log deliberately placed across the road where the thing had crossed and heard distant chatter and howls.

Sitting at camp after dark, the group heard a series of loud howl-scream-growl vocals that started hundreds of yards away and came much closer in paced intervals. The tellers said it sounded like a werewolf from a movie and unlike coyote or wolf behavior. A track was later found and cast about 100 yards from camp.
