The witness was sleeping in a travel trailer at a campground when an unknown sound woke him around 1 a.m. during quiet hours. After lying back down he sat up by an open window and heard two loud, distant howls that seemed to fill the forest valley and lacked clear direction. He felt the depth, breadth and penetrating quality of the sound could not have been produced by a human.

After a nearby dam-release siren sounded, the witness heard a deep growl that changed into a howl, then a high-pitched scream, then prolonged wooing sounds lasting about two minutes. His wife came outside during the wooing portion and also heard it.
Hammock Slapped, Bipedal Walking, and Two Vocalizations Experienced by Trio of Campers
Three campers spent the night in separate tent and hammock shelters arranged around a campfire at a remote site. During the night the reporting witness was awakened by a slap to his tarp, while the companions reported bipedal footsteps circling their shelters. Shortly after the footsteps left, two loud howls were heard about 15 minutes apart. No creature was seen and no footprints were found in the morning due to leaf cover.

The witness and a companion parked at a rocky river beach for the night in an SUV with the hatch open. After rain and fog set in they heard a low guttural growl followed by a loud scream and multiple high and low voices that seemed to talk, howl and laugh while surrounding the vehicle, plus loud thumps. Terrified, they drove to a friend's house and waited until sunrise, then returned to find all gear untouched and no tracks.

Three people clearing an ATV trail under power lines saw a large bipedal creature about 200 yards away walking toward them, which stopped and turned quickly into the woods. One witness rode an ATV to the nearby road to try to intercept it, but it was gone. While checking roadside sand for prints they heard a short howl followed by two sets of three tree knocks.
Howls heard near Spokane River
The witness was at home overnight with bedroom windows open after letting her dog out when she heard a loud siren-like howl, followed a few minutes later by a fainter similar sound from farther away. She judged the sounds unlike coyote, wolf, or domestic dog and described them as a single drawn-out whooooooo that rose and then stopped. She also reported a strong trashy skunk-like odor. No visual contact was described.

The witness and a relative camped overnight beside a creek after scouting the area for hunting. Around 10 p.m. a loud nearby branch break woke them, but a flashlight search revealed nothing. An hour later distant howls woke them again, with further responses heard after the witness howled back, and footsteps were later heard near the tent. Next morning a single large deep footprint was found near the tent and photographed.

On the night of July 27 they heard intermittent howls from across the lake for about half an hour, then heard a branch break near the tree line. After going to bed something struck the cottage hard, followed by mumbling sounds outside a window and a long scrape along the wall; a morning search found no tracks, damage, or thrown objects.

The witness was camping with two companions at Peterson Prairie Campground. Around 2:30-3 a.m. all three were woken by a very loud, long drawn-out scream/howl that shifted from higher to lower pitch. The sound was described as very close and repeated three times.

Four campers sitting around a campfire at night heard two deep howls from the south, then a higher-pitched howl from the northwest, followed about 20 minutes later by a close whoop. The witness was camping with family along Marble Creek near Avery in July 2019. While preparing dinner at dusk, she heard repeated long siren-like howls echoing from higher elevation. The witness was staying alone at cottages beside fields edging forest and sitting outside in the evening. A loud sound described as between a howl and a scream came from the woods to the west and lasted 3-5 minutes. All farm animals reportedly froze and turned toward the sound, which the witness did not recognize from growing up in the area.
