When the witness was a child living in a remote wooded valley, pounding on wood drew a sibling indoors and the family went outside to listen. On a fall evening just before dusk, the witness, then a child, and the father were at their farm when the father heard a loud disturbance in a wooded valley below a field. The father took a tape recorder and walked toward the sounds of a loud growling/roaring creature apparently fighting a neighbor's dog while the child waited uphill by a feed trough. The creature was never seen because it was too dark in the woods, and the father returned uphill. The neighbor's dog was never seen again.

The witness was scouting for turkeys in spring on the southern side of Jacks Mountain when turkey-like clucking from dense brush drew him closer. Each time he approached, a very low guttural growl came from the brush where nothing could be seen, stopping when he backed away while the clucking resumed. After two or three such approaches he left the area.

One hunter briefly ran then returned, and the group left quickly after shining a weak light toward the sound without seeing anything.

From 80 to 100 yards ahead they heard an extremely loud 6- to 7-second bellow-roar rising to high-pitched cries, then later a low 5-second growl from about 50 yards and a second shorter high-pitched scream after reaching the ridge top. They never saw the source and returned home without further incident.

After getting tangled and shouting, the witness saw the animal look toward them while running to the tree line, then both youths left for home.

The witness and a companion were camping in a tent on the witness's driveway in mid-October. Around 2 a.m. under a full moon, the witness awoke to grunting and snapping trees and saw a large hair-covered figure striking and eating a deer, then dragging it uphill. The figure approached the tent, giving off a strong musky odor and knocking a frying pan from a tree before leaving. In the morning the witness found deer remains, drag marks, and a shelter-like structure of bent and broken pines.

In early fall 1980 around 7 p.m., the witness was in the kitchen after feeding horses while his wife brought in laundry. Both heard screaming near the corral gate, the wife ran inside frightened and horses fled, and the witness glimpsed a very tall dark furry figure moving through a lit patch while it screamed and made clicking growling noises before he went back inside and locked doors.

They rode toward the sound without seeing anything, then put out the fire and left feeling watched and frightened.

As a child camping with family, the witness woke at night and stayed up to watch raccoons. Two large hair-covered creatures waded across a creek into the camp, growling and grunting while going through items left out. The frightened witness hid and remained still until they left the way they came, after which the raccoons returned.

After getting down to chase the dogs off, the witness smelled a musky sour odor like a dead animal.
