Looking out the window in bright moonlight, they saw a very large hairy bipedal animal in the yard. Their grandfather came to the room, knocked out the window screen and fired a rifle at it. The animal bellowed, ran on two legs and stepped over a barbed-wire fence toward a creek, and no sign was found the next day.

She later heard that a woman's mutilated body was found in the park, after which the park was placed under a nighttime curfew.

As they walked to the house, they heard something walking in brush alongside them, stopping when they stopped, across a railroad track and fields to the yard light.

In the summer of 1959 the witness was working as a counselor at a wooded Girl Scout camp. Over roughly two weeks, staff repeatedly heard footsteps moving through the tent area after dark, saw a dark figure near a hut, and found a director's tent ransacked, with deputies searching each day without finding anyone. On the final night the group heard extremely loud screams that moved from near a remote tent toward a pond and creek and found a large maple branch freshly broken off, leading the witness years later to wonder if the visitor had been a Bigfoot.

A couple hiking down a mountain road at dusk heard a large unseen presence moving through the woods beside the road. The sounds matched their movements, stopping when they stopped, and continued alongside them for an hour or more as they descended. They spoke loudly to try to scare it away and judged from the loud crunching steps that it was very large and not a deer.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m., the witness and two companions heard screaming and metal being torn near junked cars below an old railbed. A very large presence came up the steep bank and stood close enough for its breath to be felt, accompanied by a foul odor. When the group fled toward the road it chased them with audible footsteps before stopping at the brush, and a heavy station wagon nearby was later found overturned and torn apart.
