The witness, then 15, was squirrel hunting with two relatives in forested hills when he descended into a hollow and saw a dark brown creature sitting on a large rock. The creature stood on two legs and ran off quickly while walking noises were heard on both sides and a strong odor filled the air. The group left the area shortly after at the father's urging.

The witness was camping in a remote area near Yosemite, sleeping in a tent set apart from companions' tents. Very late at night while drifting toward sleep, the witness heard heavy footsteps moving around the tent and became frightened. The witness ran to a companion's tent; the companions reported hearing nothing, and the night was noted as unusually quiet with no crickets. No visual observation was made.

A resident went to the outhouse around 2 or 3 in the morning and heard something very large moving on two legs through dense brush toward him. They then glimpsed something out of the corner of their eye moving parallel to the road through dense woods. As he boarded the arriving bus he heard a deep growl from the woods behind him. He searched the area later that day and found nothing.

Two companions were riding horses south alongside railroad tracks when they noticed a foul odor, breaking branches, restless horses, and the sound of movement on the track rocks. They then saw a single slim, reddish-brown hair-covered figure standing in a partial crouch in the middle of the tracks about 150 yards away, watching them. The witnesses struggled to control their horses and left the area without returning.

In August 1984 four teenagers were camping overnight on a wooded ridge when they heard unexplained noises and their dogs became agitated. A very loud yell came from just behind their lean-to, which shook visibly, causing the group to flee through the dark woods. One teen briefly froze before following, later reporting grunting and footsteps behind him. The next day the group found the lean-to torn down, the fire pit rocks scattered, and a strong wet-dog-like odor at the site.

A radio with dead batteries emitted loud screeching static, prompting them to move to a fire on a rock by the lake. A large dark figure sat on its haunches on the path to the river about twenty to thirty feet away, backlit by the moon. After a frozen stare the witness shut the door, heard distinct bipedal footsteps, then a fist-sized rock and a freshly ripped branch struck the camper.

The witness, then about 12, was deer hunting with his father, brother and uncles at a mountain camp. Over several nights a loud screaming vocalization was heard around 9 p.m. and the uncles repeatedly chased the source uphill. One uncle confronted a very tall hair-covered biped at close range and fired over its head, while later nights brought a spotlight glimpse of a large dark mass, a small 4-foot figure, answering calls from another ridge, uprooted trees and reddish hair tufts, before the activity moved away.

He then saw a tall black-haired upright figure tear a limb from a tree and look at him.
