A teenager checking muskrat traps before school with a dog noticed the dog staying close and growling. On a steep bank the witness saw a tall hair-covered figure with a non-human face and a foul smell. The creature approached, squatted to strip and eat leaves, noticed the witness, vocalized, and walked away into timber, later appearing briefly on a distant ridge. The witness considered shooting it for science but refrained, then examined droppings and a bedding spot.

In childhood, the witness and a companion heard a thumping noise while playing and went to investigate. They saw a large hairy animal squatting nearby using pieces of firewood to dig in the ground. The animal stood up, bared its teeth silently, and walked toward them, causing them to flee into the companion's house. Daylight sighting by woodsman of two bipeds stalking an elk
The witness was positioned on one mountainside watching across a valley toward an opposite slope where an elk was being stalked by two large brown animals first taken for bears. Viewed through binoculars, the two stood upright and walked on two legs, keeping the elk between them and at times hiding behind trees before entering heavy timber after about five minutes. The outcome for the elk was not seen, but the witness thought the pair probably killed it.

Two weeks after being shot, the creature returned to the farm while wood was being chopped by lantern light. It attacked the boy who had shot it, knocking him down and breaking his arm before the father drove it away. The boy was left unconscious but expected to recover, and hunters then scoured the area.

Four men returning home were accosted by a long-haired gorilla-like wild man and fought it to the ground, binding its wrists. A newspaper correspondent described a party tracking a famous wild man to a frozen lake where dogs lost the trail. A rider watched the figure break ice with its arms, come ashore and shake itself. When headed off, it dragged the hunter down, gouged his eyes and bit him, destroyed the saddle and bridle, then rode the horse toward the mountains using a sapling as a club.

After thefts of food and disappearances of women and children, tribal leaders sent mounted warriors to confront man-like beasts. The party rode for hours and charged a group seen from a hilltop amid a strong smell of decay and a mound of victims. Gunfire and hand fighting left the creatures and their captain dead, and survivors buried the dead.

A San Francisco newspaper article from the 1850s reportedly described giant creatures coming out of the hills on the Kenai Peninsula. The creatures were said to capture humans and eat them.

Odor
Over a two-week period the witness reported spooked cattle, departing deer, a growling dog, a strange odor, and a feeling of being watched near the wintering area without finding marks.
