The witness and family were camping on a hillside above a campground when they heard loud, prolonged human-like screams from the creek beds nearly every morning for eight days. The cries lasted about thirty seconds and repeated several times around 4:30 a.m., seeming to move toward and away from camp. On three mornings the witness tried to approach the source with a flashlight, but the sounds moved uphill toward the ridge without any brush noise heard.

Looking toward the river, he saw a dark, hairy, human-faced figure standing in the water watching his vehicle. He first thought it was a bear but concluded it lacked a snout and had human-like features, and he kept driving without stopping.

The witness and a relative were doing sunset photography from a parking lot above forested hills. They heard an extremely loud single scream or roar coming from the forest several hundred yards below, on two occasions that evening, which others in the lot also noticed. The sound was described as starting low and building, with power and a chorus-like quality that seemed beyond a single human, and did not match any known animal to them.

The witness and a younger relative parked and hiked toward a beaver dam meadow. The relative heard knocking sounds and then saw a tall hunched hair-covered figure with striking yellow eyes watching from the treeline, while the witness smelled a strong odor and the dog barked and kept looking back. The group walked back to the truck without running while hearing twigs snapping behind them, and later wondered if they had disturbed the animal while feeding.

The witness and four companions camped on a logging spur to climb Mount St Helens. Around 2-3 a.m., the witness and one companion awoke to very loud, distant, deep howling that lasted about 15 minutes. They had not heard the sound before and ruled out cougar and elk, tentatively considering a bear but finding it too loud for a bear at that distance. No visual contact or physical evidence was reported, and the sound was heard on only one of three nights at the site.

About 10-15 minutes later they heard an extremely loud bang from a nearby hill that sounded like wood striking a large tree. Other campers nearby reacted with alarm and left early the next morning, while the host suggested sirens.

Late at night in July 2007 the witness was watching television at home while his spouse slept in another room with a window open. Both were startled by an extremely loud scream coming from outside that corner of the house. The witness went outside to investigate but found nothing. Years later the couple heard purported recordings on television that they felt matched the sound exactly.

When it should have entered an open clearing it was gone, and a search of the area found no trace.

The next morning the witness found a yard tree limb twisted and split despite calm weather the prior day. The witness searched for footprints and other traces but found none, and cut out the twisted section to keep for study.

The vehicle behind them braked and turned on high beams, suggesting its occupants may also have seen it. The figure did not react to the cars or lights and was described as definitely not a bear, deer, or large dog.

From the forested canyon to the west they heard a series of about ten loud whoop-howl calls with pauses between them. Normal background wildlife noise stopped during the calls and resumed shortly after, with no answers or repeats and no visual contact.

They heard heavy footsteps and branches cracking, then saw the back of a tall orange-brown haired creature moving uphill about 30 yards away. The creature continued uphill quickly over rocks and disappeared, and the witness returned to the trail to tell family.

His young child was asleep during the sounds and did not witness them.
