In 1972 the father was hunting on a trail with the mother when he saw a large black hair-covered creature standing behind a small tree staring at him through his rifle scope. He watched it motionless for about a minute and a half before it disappeared from view, then left the area with the mother without telling her at the time. The father reportedly quit hunting and other outdoor activities afterward and rarely discussed the incident.

When the headlights were turned on, the group saw an upright figure covered in dense black fur standing at the edge of a clearing about 15 feet away. The witness and a companion were camping overnight in sleeping bags with two other campers who were asleep. In the early morning the witness felt watched, sat up, and both awake campers saw a large totally black humanoid standing at the woods edge about a hundred feet away for several minutes. After sensing it meant no harm, both lay down and fell asleep. No odor or unusual sounds were noted.

In summer 1963 an 8-year-old child accompanied his father to a cedar-clearing work site on Moscow Mountain. After the father felled a large cedar snag, the child climbed onto the downed trunk when a small, muscular, dark-furred being jumped onto the log face-to-face with him. The child screamed and the being ran away on two legs toward the top of the tree and disappeared into brush. Both had felt watched just before felling, but no animal had been seen in the standing tree.

Late at night in spring 1963, six family members stopped during a rabbit hunting trip in sagebrush country and used a spotlight to look for animals. The spotlight revealed a large, tall, hair-covered upright figure running away, leaping over brush without pausing before disappearing into a gully. The group did not pursue it or search for footprints and ended the hunt, concluding it matched no familiar animal.

As a young teenager bringing cows across a canal near dark, the diarist saw a large bear-like figure standing on hind feet by a sapling 600-700 feet away and felt intense chill. Cows were undisturbed and his father was unconcerned. Next morning with his friend [name withheld] he found a huge bare footprint in wet mud under the sapling, estimated 8.5-9 feet tall using [name withheld]'s height, and nearby found a stick-bed with a strong repulsive odor.

They used loud fireworks as a distraction to reach the truck, heard a loud scream across the creek, and were hit by a branch while leaving.

Soon after the first incident, while riding horseback in sparse pasture, the diarist found two 4-5 foot tall owl-like beings with large eyes and sockets. They did not flee; they stepped toward him as he stepped, stared, and seemed to look at each other as if communicating. He circled them on horseback, tried shouting and waving, then rode home for a .22 to shoot around them, but they were gone on return.
