Over several days he felt watched and heard strange breathy vocalizations, heavy footsteps retreating, and a loud boom. When walking to the outhouse in mid-afternoon fading light, a very tall hairy human-like creature stepped from behind the outhouse and faced him about 30 feet away, vocalizing powerfully. After a tense standoff in which the witness touched his pistol and the creature tensed, it looked away and ran into dense woods, breaking saplings.

The witness was hunting alone in a forested creek bottom when a bedded deer flushed into tall reeds. From higher ground above the reeds he saw a tall dark mottled figure moving upright across the creek about 50 yards away. The most intense moment was a predawn episode with a deep guttural roar followed by a scream-like sound near camp. They left early after smelling the odor again near a plum thicket.
