After several approaches the witness screamed, and the walker immediately took two leaping steps away and left. At daylight they found no tracks in the dry conditions and left after a comparison stomping test sounded far lighter.

The witness, then 15, was squirrel hunting with two relatives in forested hills when he descended into a hollow and saw a dark brown creature sitting on a large rock. The witness was riding with a companion in daylight when they noticed a small upright figure by the roadside holding a stick. The figure dropped to all fours, moved into the road, then stood bipedally and crossed slowly in front of the car, forcing a brake. After passing, it dropped to all fours again, glanced back, and left into the woods. Both occupants agreed it was not a bear or monkey and described it as about four and a half to five feet tall, dark brown and ape-like.

In 1985 on a Saturday mid-morning, the witness was driving north on U.S. 41 toward Chicago when they looked east into a shallow depression with a stream about 100-150 yards away. They observed a large, very broad, dark-colored figure walking away with visibly swinging arms for 4-5 seconds until trees blocked the view, with tall grass obscuring its lower legs. The witness turned around to re-check the spot minutes later but nothing was there.
