Woman hears nighttime screams near Polk
The witness reports hearing a very loud high-pitched scream on two to three occasions in the middle of the night while awake in bed, once loud enough to wake her. On one occasion she woke her sleeping husband, who also heard the screeches. She first thought it was another animal but later wondered if it could have been a bigfoot.

The witness reported finding three large human-like footprints while fly fishing on the south shore of a river east of town. The prints were documented with photographs and tape measurements, including one about 18 to 19 inches long with a 38-inch step to the next print. The investigator stated that bear, human, and hoax explanations were ruled out by visual examination and estimated a very heavy animal from depth and area.
Possible vocalizations heard while motorists were taking a break at turnout near La Manga Pass
Four people stopped at a turnout on Highway 17 ascending toward La Manga Pass in the morning. After one person in the party gave a whoop, they heard three loud roar-like vocalizations with pauses between them. They saw no source and left quickly, later noting the sounds resembled an Ohio howl recording and acknowledging a human trick was possible.

Six people camping at a forested lake campground heard a repeating whistle-whoop followed by an intense screech three times overnight, first from across a meadow, then from behind camp, then from very close to the tents. Each time they searched with flashlights and a spotlight but saw no eyes or movement apart from a small fox on the road. The next morning they found no tracks or other sign around the site and lake shore, and later doubted the fox could have made such intense sounds.

The witness and a companion drove to a familiar wooded spot near dusk and noticed impressions on an embankment. They counted six impressions extending about 20 feet uphill. They had no camera at the time, so they returned two nights later to photograph the impressions and noted measurements and lack of toe detail.

The witness was locking the door after the mother and her friend left for town and saw a tall hairy figure walking through a neighbor's yard. The witness ducked behind the door and the figure was gone when they looked again. Moments later the mother called to say she and her friend had seen a large hairy animal cross the road ahead of their car and step over a metal gate.

The witness, then a teenager, was playing with a companion on a relative's wooded property when the companion came running back in panic. The witness then saw a tall, bulky, dark-brown-furred figure standing about sixty feet away beyond a gate, poking the ground with a stick. After briefly watching, the witness fled to the house, and a later search of the area found no tracks or other sign.

Three companions were camping overnight for gigging and lying in a large tent trying to sleep when prolonged loud screams were heard from across a creek for about 30 minutes. They described the screams as deep-throated, lasting several seconds each, and coming from a large animal, but they stayed in the tent and saw nothing.

A relative was riding a four-wheeler up a steep mountain road toward a lookout tower when a very strong, obnoxious odor was encountered. The smell was described as unlike bear or carcass and was gone on the return trip down the same trail. The relative was frightened by the unfamiliar smell.

The witness reports visiting a riverside trail area outside Salem on April 23, 2001 and noticing damage described as fairly fresh. Four trees were found twisted and broken well above ground level, with what may have been a track nearby. No creature was seen, but the witness characterized the source as big.

The witness went out in daylight to check for deer tracks. On hard ground he found two sets of large human-like footprints that appeared to be trailing four to five deer from a northern swamp toward southern swamps. He described this as the first of many similar footprint finds.

The witness and a coworker were driving when a tall hairy biped carrying an animal carcass over its shoulder crossed the road ahead of them from east to west during a rain squall. The crossing lasted only a few seconds before the creature disappeared into a creek bed. The next day they found partial footprints along the creek bank but lost the trail in dense undergrowth.

While hiking a trail to mines with two companions, the witness found large five-toed human-like footprints in mud and sand, including a 13-15 inch track and smaller tracks, and took photos. On the return in lower light the witness found additional clearer tracks. When left alone on the trail the witness felt watched and hurried down.

The witness was driving on a rural highway before dawn when a large dark figure was seen in the road ahead. The figure stepped into a roadside ditch while apparently carrying an animal resembling a goat or sheep. When the witness slowed for a better look, the figure turned and looked toward the vehicle before the witness left quickly.

Four people hiking to a stream to fish heard a scream/moan and then saw a non-human, almost human-like head peering from behind a tree. The creature stared for about 30 seconds before running away very quickly. The witnesses estimated it was 5 to 6 feet tall and fairly large.

The witness was walking near a creek in the afternoon when they heard a loud high-pitched squeal from the creek bed. While approaching the sound they noticed large footprints in mud and broken twigs, then heard limbs cracking. They then saw a large black hairy form run up the bank into dense forest and fled the area.

The witness and a companion were walking back to a truck during a follow-up visit when they heard repeated loud wood-on-wood knocks coming from near the truck. After waiting and trying their own knocks without response, they heard something run through the woods sounding bipedal at a sprint. They stayed by the truck until another vehicle arrived and then left.

The witness had spent two days at a friend's camp in Potter County and was preparing to leave. While heading toward a vehicle in the morning, the witness and the friend heard a single loud guttural scream unlike anything either had heard before. The sound was heard only once and was not heard again.

Late at night the witness was driving home from work when a strong odor was noticed through an open vehicle window. The witness then saw a very large dark figure beside the road between a ditch and a field about 120 feet away in the headlights, moving upright and pausing as the vehicle passed. The witness was frightened and said the figure was not a coyote, wolf, or bear known from the area.

A driver reported watching a large, brown, heavy-set creature slowly jog across a remote two-lane road and continue up a hill on two legs without looking at him. The observation lasted about 10 seconds at dusk. He first thought it was a bear but changed his mind when it moved bipedally like a person.
