Country boys have frightening nightime encounter 50 miles south of Louisville
The witness and two companions stopped on a rural back road at night and heard a distant knock, then sounds of wood breaking after the witness whistled. After driving on to turn around and stopping again, the witness shone a light into the woods and saw a tall dark hairy figure with eyeshine watching them. The encounter lasted only a few seconds before the group drove away in fear.

After knocking three times on a deck rail, the witness heard three knocks returned from nearby woods and later saw branches moving despite no wind. About an hour later the witness heard footsteps and pacing beside the house for about 15 minutes and attempted to record the sound on a phone.

The witness returned to the site of a large footprint found the previous day to take photographs. He banged sticks together for about ten minutes to try to provoke a response. Immediately after one knock he heard an extremely loud high-pitched scream or roar that frightened him. He ran down a steep brushy hill back to the house without looking back.

The witness was alone in a remote primitive cabin just after dark on a mid-October evening when she heard repeated loud knocking sounds for 15-20 minutes and then gravel hitting the tin roof. She saw nothing outside and stayed inside with a gun until her husband returned. Her husband later fired guns into the woods and found a fired bullet standing upright in the outdoor shower the next morning.

Through the night they heard movement around the tents, sticks hitting trees, branches breaking, and had objects disturbed including a tent stake pulled out. They also reported white eyeshine, a pungent odor, a dark figure seen in the treeline after daylight, and footprints and torn branches found in the morning.

In August 2003 the witness left relatives fishing to hunt ginseng on a ridge near Yatesville Lake. He claimed hearing wood-like knocks and rocks moving through the trees, then seeing a large upright hair-covered figure watching him from across a hollow. Through binoculars the witness watched a large hairy figure sitting on a log hitting it with a rock, then standing, looking toward the witness, moving its head side to side while hunched, and dashing into the thicket.
