Hikers hear characteristic vocalizations on Fiery Gizzard Trail
Two companions were hiking back toward the trailhead through a gorge when the surrounding woods erupted in loud screaming and whooping vocalizations lasting a few seconds. The sounds seemed to come from more than one nearby source, then stopped abruptly into complete silence. The pair had no visual contact with the source and finished the hike without further incident.

Wood knock near Linsdale, Tennessee
On the last night out, the pair sat back-to-back on a man-made ridge and made knocks, howls and other calls. Responses approached, then stopped, followed by heavy bipedal steps and rocks thrown from the front on both sides. They threw rocks back for many minutes until a rock came from the direction they had entered, making the guest conclude they were surrounded.
